Coffee + Community

Nestled in the heart of downtown Hillsborough, Cup-A-Joe is where locals gather and visitors savor our one-of-a-kind community over craft coffee drinks and homemade pastries. Enjoy the best of Hillsborough, a small town filled with creative and inspiring people. Located in a historic building on King Street, we shine a light on local artists through our rotating galleries, pop-up markets, and artisan-made seating. Our love for our community is in every cup we serve, every treat we bake, and every greeting from our talented baristas. Join us in bringing people together.

My husband Ryan Creery and I originally came from Iowa seeking a warmer climate and a warm, creative community. We found it in Hillsborough. We bought Cup-A-Joe in 2009 from Joe Van Gogh and have grown it into a meeting place for our town’s friendly and fascinating people. As Hillsborough has grown ever more vibrant, we needed to grow as well. In 2016, we renovated a historic space just down King Street back to its original charm of exposed brick, light-filled bay windows, and a tiled ceiling. In this larger location, we can now offer more to our community—more seating, more great Joe Van Gogh coffee and our signature beverages, and a larger kitchen to provide lots more fresh homemade baked good. My passion for baking comes from my grandmother Pauline Erceg, who was the daughter of Czech immigrants. With our expanded kitchen, I’m able to share her seasonal specialties like kolaches, pies, and pizza. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with our menu which changes daily.  Ryan and I, along with our wonderful baristas, want to thank you for supporting us and downtown Hillsborough.
